This Privacy Policy explains how Empower Airport Systems Inc. (“we”, “us”, “our” or “Empower”) collects, uses, and protects personal information. We comply with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

This policy is concerned with the protection of your personal information only. Personal information includes any data that can be used to identify you as an individual, including your name, income, personal opinion, interests, home contact information, identification numbers, user IDs, passwords, ethnic origin, and age. Under Canadian law, in a business context, personal information does not include the name, job title, business address, or business telephone number of any employee in an organization.

This policy describes the following practices:

  • Collecting information

  • Sharing your personal information

  • Maintaining your personal information

This privacy policy may change from time to time to reflect Empower’s internal needs, customer feedback, or changes in applicable privacy legislation. Empower will post all such changes on our website, so please visit this page regularly.

Collecting information

As Empower’s products and services are not aimed at individual consumers, the amount of personal information we collect on a regular basis is limited, and generally relates to individuals working as employees on behalf of companies.  We will inform you when we need information that personally identifies you, and we will keep this information in strict confidence.  Additionally, you may, on occasion, voluntarily provide Empower with information that can be classified as personal information – all such personal information will be stored and maintained in accordance with this privacy policy.

Empower considers the protection of children's privacy, especially online, to be of the utmost importance. Our website and content are not directed towards children, and we do not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from children, nor do we anticipate that they would request information through our website or customer support information lines.  If we become aware that we have unknowingly collected personal identifiable information or data from a child, we will delete such personal identifiable information or data from our records.

If a parent or guardian becomes aware that his or her child has provided us with his or her personal data without their consent, please contact us via info@empowerairportsystems.com.

We collect personal information in the following ways:

As part of your purchase of Empower’s products or services

We may require an individual’s name, address, telephone number, certain financial account or credit card information, and potentially other information of which we will inform you in advance, for billing, shipping and payment purposes.  Although this is business information, it may contain information identifying an individual, so this information is kept confidential and stored securely by Empower.

As part of your use of Empower’s website

Use of Empower’s website may result in the collection of technical information such as your computer's IP address, operating system, browser type/version, requested page, date/time, and sometimes a "cookie". Such information is used to help us understand the overall usage pattern of our website.  You also have the ability to contact Empower using the contact form on Empower’s website, which includes your name, e-mail address and any other information you choose to include in your message.  Please note that if you link to a third party website through Empower’s website, Empower is not responsible for that third party website, and any data you submit to that third party website is subject to the third party’s terms and conditions and/or privacy policy.

You contact Empower directly

Customers and business partners often contact us directly. When you contact Empower or any Empower employee by telephone, e-mail, in person, or through our website, you will be asked to provide consent to the collection and use of your personal information as needed to help us deliver the information, products, or services you require.

You respond to communications or requests from Empower

From time to time, Empower may invite you to provide us with information for specific purposes, or you may otherwise decide to respond to requests from Empower through surveys, search functions, questionnaires, feedback, and the like.  We may also ask you to provide additional information such as your e-mail address if you want to obtain additional services, information, or to request support.  Your response to these communications may require you to submit personal information and opinions.

Your information is obtained through a third party

On rare occasions, Empower may obtain information about you from third parties, such as mailing list providers, third party service providers, ISPs, or third party application or account providers. Third-party providers are responsible for obtaining consent for the release of personal information to us from those individuals identified on mailing lists, surveys, or through other collection methods.

Use and disclosure of your personal information

Subject to any exceptions stated above in the collection of information section, should Empower collect any of your personal information, we will follow these practices regarding the distribution of that information.

We take steps to protect your personal information

We have put in place physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and help prevent unauthorized access, maintain data security, and correctly use the information we collect online. Empower applies security safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information, such as retaining information in secure facilities and making personal information accessible only to authorized employees on a need-to-know basis.

We use your personal information only for limited purposes

Empower only uses and discloses your personal information if it helps us facilitate your needs (including responding to your requests and inquiries and otherwise communicating with you), improve our products, meet legal and regulatory requirements, or — to the limited extent possible — manage our internal business operations.  Additionally, if there are any disclosure or use restrictions in your consent to the collection of your personal information, Empower will abide by those restrictions (subject to the consent exceptions listed below).  For example, your credit card or financial information will only be used to bill you for the products and services that you have ordered and/or authorized, as applicable.

We do not use your personal information for general marketing or advertising – that is, we do not sell or trade any personal information.  Any marketing using your personal information, such as sending you promotional materials, will be directed to you in response to your inquiries, and you may opt out at any time. With your permission, information that you submit to Empower through our website or other electronic forms may be used for marketing and promotional purposes by Empower, provided notice of this fact is made available in the course of your submission.

Any data that you submit to us as a result of your use of our website may also be used for website security and performance, and for non-identifying internal analytics.

We only share your personal information with your consent

Empower provides your personal information to third parties only for purposes to which you have consented, and we require such third parties to keep your information confidential.  If you share any data with us through our website, you consent to the sharing of such data with our third party service providers for the limited purposes of hosting and logkeeping, form processing, and content management and delivery.  Such service providers are subject to terms prohibiting them from using any content for purposes other than as necessary to provide such services; all such services are subject to the terms and conditions of such third party service providers, which are available upon request.

In a few situations, Empower may be required to disclose your information without your prior consent. For example, Empower may disclose your information if we are required to do so by law, or if we believe in good faith that such disclosure is necessary to:

  • comply with law or legal process

  • protect and defend our rights and property, or the rights and property of a third party

  • protect against misuse or unauthorized use of any of Empower’s products, services, or other proprietary materials

  • protect the personal safety of any person

  • allow for a change of ownership of Empower and associated transfer of all personal information to the new owner of Empower – this does not affect the protection of your information under this Privacy Policy

  • Empower will always try to provide you with prior notice of such disclosure; however, such notice may not always be possible or reasonable given the circumstances.

Empower has established the following practices regarding the maintenance of your personal information.

We maintain your personal information securely and only for so long as necessary

You can opt out of communications at any time

Additionally, you always have the choice of whether you wish to receive information – such as e-mail updates – from Empower.

If you do choose to opt out of communications respecting products and services provided by Empower, you may not obtain all the benefits we could otherwise provide, such as updates or warnings. Empower will not have any liability to you for your loss of those benefits or any negative effects respecting your use of Empower’s products or services.

You can request that your personal information be destroyed at any time

A situation may arise where you desire to have all of your personal information that is contained in Empower’s records deleted or destroyed.  If this is what you wish, please contact our Privacy Officer, who will take care of removing your personal information from all of Empower’s records.  However, there may be situations where we are obligated to retain one archival copy of your information to allow us to comply with laws or respond to legal processes.  We will inform you of all such situations, and will only use your retained personal information to the limited extent necessary to comply with such laws or respond to legal processes.
